Some Helix mattress covers also feature special treatments, such as antimicrobial or hypoallergenic properties, to help keep the sleep surface clean and healthy.
Who are Helix mattresses suitable for?
Given the wide range of Helix Sleep mattresses, it’s likely that there’s something here for everyone, regardless of whether you’re looking for a competitively-priced mattress or a more luxurious option.
That said, Helix Sleep mattresses are particularly suitable for the following groups of people.
Helix mattresses for couples
Helix Sleep mattresses are ideal for couples with different sleep preferences, as they offer a wide range of firmness levels and customisation options. 👫
The mattresses’ motion isolation and edge support also make them well-suited for sharing.
Helix mattresses for side sleepers
Helix Sleep offers a few mattresses specifically designed for side sleepers, including the best-selling Helix Midnight and the Helix Sunset. 😴
These mattresses offer excellent pressure relief and spinal alignment, ensuring a comfortable and supportive night’s rest.
Helix mattresses for plus-sized sleepers
Many bed-in-a-box mattresses are too soft or not supportive enough for heavier-weight individuals.
But the Helix Plus mattress has been specifically designed for plus-sized individuals and those looking for extra support. 💪
Its construction features high-density materials and reinforced coils to provide enhanced durability and comfort.
Birch for eco-conscious sleepers
Birch by Helix Sleep is an excellent option for those who prefer environmentally friendly, all-natural materials. 🌿
Made with organic cotton, natural wool, and Talalay latex, it offers a sustainable and comfortable sleep solution.
Those in the UK looking for a good alternative may want to check out the Simba GO Hybrid mattress, a green and organic mattress made from 100% recyclable materials.
Helix Kids for children
The Helix Kids mattress caters to the unique sleep needs of children aged 3 - 12 years. 👶
With its dual-sided construction and water-repellent cover, it provides comfort and support as children grow.
Who are Helix mattresses not suitable for?
Even though Helix offers such a wide range of mattresses, some people may not be happy with the Helix selection.
Let’s look more closely at who Helix mattresses would not be suitable for.
Helix is not available in the UK
Since Helix Sleep is a US-based company with no direct outlets across the pond, UK residents will have to look elsewhere for the best night’s sleep. 🌍
We’ve linked to some of our favourite UK-based alternatives above, but you can also head over to our guide on the best UK mattresses for a wider variety of choices.
People easily overwhelmed by choices
Individuals who struggle with decision-making might find the extensive range of Helix mattresses and customisation options overwhelming, potentially making it difficult to settle on the perfect mattress for their needs. 😩
Even though the Helix Mattress Quiz will help sleepers find the perfect mattress, it’s sometimes still easier to go for a brand with fewer choices.
We’re big fans of the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid, a premium mattress available in the UK and the USA.
While there are three DreamCloud mattresses in the US, only one fuss-free option is available in the UK, ensuring an easy purchasing process.
All-foam enthusiasts
Helix Sleep does not offer any all-foam options in its product line-up. 🤨
While hybrid mattresses often offer superior temperature regulation and support, sleepers who specifically prefer the feel of an all-foam mattress may not find Helix mattresses suitable for their preferences.
If you're an all-foam enthusiast, we'd recommend checking out the Nectar memory foam mattress.
This ultra-comfortable mattress is available at competitive prices in the UK and the USA.
Strict budget shoppers
While Helix Sleep offers a range of mattresses at various price points, these are still not budget mattresses. 💰
Some of the Helix models, such as the Helix Luxe, Elite, and Birch options, are even more premium options available at higher price points - and definitely not budget-friendly.
Finding a good budget mattress is surprisingly difficult but, luckily, there are a few great options available in the UK.
The Hypnia Essential Hybrid, for example, offers unbeatable value for money and it's super comfy to boot.
How comfortable are Helix mattresses?
While each Helix Sleep mattress will be slightly different, it may be helpful to look at standard mattress properties and see how Helix mattresses compare.
Motion isolation
Motion isolation refers to a mattress’s ability to absorb movement, reducing the likelihood of disturbances caused by a partner tossing and turning.
Ideally, you’d want a mattress with low motion transfer.
Helix mattresses, particularly those with memory foam layers, perform well in terms of motion isolation.
The Helix Midnight and Helix Sunset are worth mentioning, as both offer excellent motion absorption for undisturbed sleep.
Pressure relief
Pressure relief is the capacity of a mattress to redistribute body weight, alleviating pressure points and discomfort.
Helix mattresses cater to various sleep positions, providing targeted pressure relief.
The Helix Twilight and Helix Sunset stand out in this aspect, offering optimal pressure relief for side sleepers.
Temperature control
Temperature control refers to a mattress’s ability to regulate heat and maintain a comfortable sleeping temperature. 🥵
Helix mattresses with breathable materials and advanced cooling properties, like the Elite models and the Birch mattress, are particularly good for hot sleepers.
Edge support
Edge support is the level of reinforcement and stability along the mattress’s perimeter. ⛰️
This feature is important for preventing sagging and providing consistent support across the entire surface.
While all Helix mattresses offer decent edge support, the Elite models and Helix Plus offer a reinforced perimeter for extra support.
Ease of movement
Ease of movement refers to how easy it is to change positions or move around on a mattress without feeling stuck.
Mattresses with more responsive materials facilitate easier movement, allowing sleepers to switch positions effortlessly.
While all Helix mattresses are designed with ease of movement in mind, very restless sleepers may feel more comfortable on mattresses that don’t have memory foam.
Mattresses with a top layer of memory foam offer very cushioning support, but this can restrict movement.
Off-gassing
Off-gassing refers to the release of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can cause an unpleasant smell when a new mattress is unpacked.
Helix mattresses generally have minimal off-gassing, which dissipates quickly.
Off-gassing is also not toxic or harmful in any way.
Those who are concerned, however, would be best off with the Birch by Helix mattresses. 🌿
These eco-friendly options made with natural materials produce little to no off-gassing.
In the UK, you'll find similar eco options, like the Simba Go Organic mattress.
Helix mattress sizes
Helix Sleep mattresses are available in a variety of US mattress sizes.
These sizes include:
- Helix Twin size mattress: 99 x 190.5 cm (3’3” x 6’3”)
- Helix Twin XL size mattress: 99 x 203 cm (3’3” x 6’8”)
- Helix Full size mattress: 137 x 190.5 cm (4’6” x 6’3”)
- Helix Queen size mattress: 152.5 x 203 cm (5’0” x 6’8”)
- Helix King size mattress: 193 x 203 cm (6’4” x 6’8”)
- Helix California King size mattress: 183 x 213.5 cm (6’0” x 7’0”)
US mattress sizes are, unfortunately, quite different to the standard UK mattress sizes.
Are Helix mattresses expensive?
Helix Sleep mattresses in the US typically fall within a mid-range price point.
But, the more luxurious options, including the Luxe and Elite Collections and the Helix Plus and Birch by Helix, fall towards the upper end of the price range.
Helix Sleep does occasionally offer sales, discounts, or promotions, making the mattresses more accessible to a wider range of customers.
In the UK, mattresses by Simba Sleep are most comparable in terms of quality and price points.
Take a look at the UK's Simba mattresses:
How are Helix mattresses delivered?
Helix offers free, no-contact delivery in the US, and mattresses are shipped within 3 - 7 business days.
Helix mattresses are delivered compressed and rolled up in a box, making them convenient to manoeuvre and set up in the desired room.
Conveniently, Helix mattresses are simple to unpack - remove the mattress from the box, unroll it onto a suitable foundation, and carefully remove the plastic wrapping. 📦
Once unpacked, it generally takes a few hours for the mattress to inflate and regain its intended shape fully.
There may be a mild off-gassing smell upon unboxing, which is typical for mattress-in-a-box products.
But, this odour should dissipate within a few hours to a few days with proper ventilation.
What happens if you don’t like your Helix mattress?
In the USA, Helix Sleep offers a 100-night sleep trial period for their mattresses, giving customers the opportunity to test out the product and ensure it meets their sleep needs.
If, during the trial period, you decide that the mattress is not the right fit, Helix provides a hassle-free return process.
The company will arrange for the mattress to be picked up and either donated or recycled, depending on local regulations.
Once the return is confirmed, customers receive a full refund. 💸
Most UK brands also offer risk-free trial periods.
These average from 30 to 200 days, but the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid and Nectar Premier Hybrid are even available with a 365-day trial!
Check out these great trial period options:
Is a Helix mattress worth considering?
Helix Sleep has made a name for itself in the mattress industry by offering a diverse range of high-quality, innovative sleep products.
Their unique Helix Sleep Quiz and customisable mattresses cater to individual preferences.
And, with over 13 mattress models, the company provides options for various sleep positions, comfort levels, and budgets.
If you’re based in the US, Helix Sleep is worth considering.
UK residents will still have to wait until the Helix mattresses become available (we’ll keep you updated on whether or not this happens), but luckily there are also dozens of great UK hybrid mattresses available.
