Introducing the most expensive mattress in the world
In 2020, Swedish mattress manufacturer Hästens collaborated with world-renowned interior designer Ferris Rafauli [1].
Together, they created the Hästens Grand Vividus, now known as the most expensive mattress in the world that retails at approximately £325,000.
Despite its hefty price tag, the mattress reportedly enjoys popularity among celebrities. ⭐️
Canadian rapper and singer Drake [2] is rumoured to have been one of the first to purchase this exorbitantly priced mattress.
According to Forbes Magazine [3], other celebrities like Cristiano Ronaldo [4], Maria Sharapova [5], and Will Ferrell [6] now also sleep on the Grand Vividus mattress.
In fact, this mattress has become so sought-after that there is currently a waiting list for it.
For those living in financial abundance, the high price doesn’t deter - in fact, it adds to its exclusivity.
But why is this mattress so expensive?
It all boils down to its materials and manufacturing process - let’s look at this next.
How is the world's most expensive mattress made?
The Hästens Grand Vividus is entirely handmade and takes approximately 600 hours to craft.
It also comprises exclusive natural materials, processed by hand, including hand-spun horsehair, stingray leather, cotton, flax, wool, Swedish pine wood, pocket springs, Bonnell springs, inlaid bronze, and leather upholstery.
It’s worth remembering that the Grand Vividus is actually the most expensive bed in the world, as a purchase includes both the bed and base.
The materials and time required to make this product certainly partially explain its high cost, but its exclusivity and collaboration with renowned designer Ferris Rafauli further inflate the price.
Hästens also offers a very unique service - mattress massaging.
You can have your Hästens mattress massaged and flipped up to four times a year.
According to Hästens, this service ensures the mattress remains in prime condition, allowing them to offer a warranty of 25 years.
As a comparison, the average lifespan of a “normal mattress” is about 10 years, but some more affordable manufacturers also offer lifetime warranties, like the ones you’ll find on the Nectar Premier Hybrid and the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid.
Can you sleep on the world's most expensive mattress?
Rumour has it that a showroom in Los Angeles offers the Grand Vividus for testing - by appointment only, of course.
You won’t be able to take the mattress for a full test drive, but this does give you the chance to experience the feel and appearance of the mattress firsthand.
You can also pop into any Hästens showroom in the UK for a look at the mattresses in general, but the Grand Vividus is largely off-limits for us regular folk.
If you go ahead and purchase a Grand Vividus, it’ll be custom-made according to your preferences.
One of Hästens' expert sleep consultants will discuss all the features and options with you, so the final product may look and feel completely different from the showroom model.
What is the second most expensive mattress in the world?
Perhaps not surprisingly, the second most expensive mattress in the world is the Hästens Vividus - the little sibling of the Grand Vividus.
The Hästens Vividus will set you back approximately £158,000.
The first version of this mattress was produced in 2006, and it took two years to design and around 160 hours to make. 🕰️
Since then, the mattress has been continuously revamped, particularly in terms of temperature regulation and composition, to produce one of the best mattresses in the world.
Now, a Vividus bed takes around 320 hours to make.
Do you need the world’s most expensive mattress?
Of course you don’t - the world’s most expensive mattress and, for that matter, the world’s most expensive bed, may be wonderful, but they’re really not necessary.
There are plenty of mattresses available that are well-made, super comfortable, and, most importantly, much more affordable.
