Why should you choose the Simba Hybrid 3-in-1 duvet?
Before we deep-dive into the composition and various elements of the Simba Hybrid 3-in-1 duvet, you may be asking yourself why you should even consider this option. 🤔
- Who is the Simba Hybrid 3-in-1 duvet suitable for?
- What are the benefits of this particular duvet?
- And what makes this 3-in-1 duvet different from the standard Simba duvet?
First up, the duvet is made of synthetic materials, is hypoallergenic, and can be machine-washed and tumble-dried.
This makes it an excellent choice for people with allergies or those concerned about hygiene.
The original Simba duvet has the same features.
But unlike the original 10.5 tog Simba Hybrid duvet, which is one single duvet, the 3-in-1 duvet is actually a duvet set featuring two separate duvets that can be clipped together to create one “master” duvet.
These are the three types of duvets you’ll find in this set:
- A lighter 3.5 tog summer duvet, which provides just enough warmth for summer nights. 🌿
- A heavier 7 tog spring/autumn duvet, which provides a tad more warmth for those transitional seasons. 🌸🍁
- Clipped together, the two create a 10.5 tog winter duvet, which provides more warmth during cold winter nights. ❄️
The lighter and heavier tog duvets can easily be combined using snap buttons to create the winter duvet.
This makes the Simba 3-in-1 duvet a great option for those who want the flexibility to adjust their duvet depending on the changing seasons without having to purchase separate duvets for each.
That said, the total tog rating of the Simba 3-in-1 duvet is only 10.5 togs - this may still not be warm enough for very cold winter nights. 🥶
Many winter duvets carry a tog rating of 12.5 - 13.5 or even higher.
If you tend to feel very cold at night, you may want to consider a higher tog rating or invest in additional blankets.
That said, the Simba Hybrid 3-in-1 duvet is still a wonderful product if you’re looking for a high-quality, fuss-free option.
Let’s look at the duvet itself in more detail. 🙌
Simba Hybrid 3-in-1 duvet composition
Composition-wise, you’ll see many similarities between the standard Simba Hybrid duvet and the Simba Hybrid 3-in-1 duvet.
Both of the duvets in the 3-in-1 set have the same composition; it’s just the tog rating that differs.
Similar to the original option, the 3-in-1 duvet features:
- A top cover made of 100% BCI Cotton with Stratos technology for temperature regulation.
- A core of Simba Renew Clusters to dissipate heat.
- A breathable Modal-and-cotton blend bottom cover.
We’ll look at the cover and the innovative Stratos Active technology in more detail further down.
For now, let’s briefly consider the core of the Simba duvet.
Simba Renew Clusters
The 3-in-1 duvet has a core of Simba Renew Clusters.
Simba Renew is a synthetic alternative to feather and down, made from recycled PET plastic bottles.
This makes it both a hypoallergenic and an incredibly sustainable material. 👍
The fibres are combed and folded into airy, downy clusters, forming a super-soft material.
This material can trap heat efficiently, helping to keep you warm and cosy throughout the night.
Despite the insulating properties, Simba Renew Clusters are also breathable, preventing you from overheating or feeling stuffy during the night. 💨
The Simba Renew fibres in the 3-in-1 duvet are also blended with 20% Modal, a moisture-wicking material derived from natural wood pulp.
This allows for extra breathability and temperature regulation.
What does sleeping with the Simba Hybrid 3-in-1 duvet feel like?
If you’ve read our review of the original Simba duvet, you may remember that we weren’t fans of the stiff and plasticky feel.
Luckily, the Simba Hybrid 3-in-1 duvet feels entirely different despite relying on the same materials.
The duvet itself is soft and malleable, very squishy and lightweight, and incredibly comfortable to sleep with.
The outer fabric itself isn’t quite as soft as what you’ll find with something like the Panda bamboo duvet, one of our all-time favourites, but you won’t notice this once you’ve added your duvet cover.
The Simba Hybrid 3-in-1 duvet feels identical to a high-quality down and feather duvet - but, of course, without the risk of allergies or animal cruelty. 🤧
Even clipped together into the winter duvet version, the 3-in-1 is very, very lightweight, and it’s an absolute dream to sleep under.
Of course, if you like a bit of weight and want something heavier, we’d recommend pairing the 3-in-1 duvet with a weighted blanket for some pressure therapy.
But if you’re after a duvet that’s comfortable and won’t hinder your movements, Simba’s 3-in-1 is an excellent choice.
Does the Simba Hybrid 3-in-1 duvet sleep hot?
How hot you sleep actually depends on more than just your duvet’s tog rating. 😲
You’ll also need to consider:
- The breathability and temperature-regulating properties of your duvet’s materials.
- The materials of your duvet cover and the rest of your bedding.
- The type of mattress you’re sleeping on.
Some mattress materials retain more heat than others, so, for example, you’re likely to feel hotter on a memory foam mattress than on a pocket-sprung mattress, regardless of what duvet you’re using. 🔥
We tried the Simba Hybrid 3-in-1 duvet together with cotton bedding while sleeping on a hybrid mattress that combines foams and mini pocket springs.
Overheating has never been an issue with either the mattress or the bedding, so this gave us a good base to work from for our review.
We tested the 3-in-1 duvet during London’s spring, with some nights warmer and some nights cooler than others, and we tested both the summer one and the spring/autumn one independently and clipped together in the winter version.
Even while sleeping with the winter duvet, we never felt like the duvet weighed us down or left us hot and clammy.
But, while we never felt uncomfortable, we did notice that the synthetic Simba duvet was not quite as cool as our previous down duvet. 🪶
If you’re a very hot sleeper or heavy sweater, you may find that you’re more comfortable with natural materials - or you may just need to sleep with the lower tog options Simba provides.
On the flip side, it’s also worth reiterating that the winter option of the Simba Hybrid 3-in-1 duvet has a tog rating of only 10.5.
While this is warm, many other brands sell 10.5 tog as their cooler spring/autumn option, with the real winter duvets starting at a slightly higher tog.
Most similarly-designed Fine Bedding Company products, for example, can be combined to create a 13.5 tog duvet.
If you get very cold at night, you may feel that the Simba 3-in-1 is not warm enough, and pairing it with additional bedding would be a good idea.
Simba 3-in-1 duvet cover and design
Simba Sleep proves that all parts of a product’s design matter.
Like with the standard Simba duvet, there are two sides to the 3-in-1 cover:
- Top cover of 100% BCI cotton with Stratos technology
- Bottom cover with 55% Modal and 45% cooling cotton
Both sides of the cover feature cotton, a very breathable material that allows for enhanced airflow and effective temperature regulation. 🪭
Cotton is widely used in the bedding industry, but what makes the Simba duvet unique is the active Stratos technology.
What is Stratos technology?
Stratos, in a nutshell, is a phase-changing temperature control technology with microcapsules that absorb heat when it’s hot and release heat when it’s cold. 🥵🥶
This active technology responds to body temperature, and reacts accordingly to keep you comfortable.
Stratos is a feature you’ll find in many Simba products, including the duvets and the Simba Hybrid pillow, and it’ll help keep you at the perfect temperature year-round.
Simba 3-in-1 duvet cover piping
While the standard Simba duvet has one cover with two different colours of piping to indicate the Stratos side and the cotton side, the design of the 3-in-1 cover is slightly different.
- The 3.5 tog has a cover with blue piping.
- The 7 tog has a cover with grey piping.
This allows you to easily differentiate the two and choose the one best suited to your needs and the season.
Of course, each cover also has a label indicating the respective tog rating.
Identifying the Stratos side
Both duvets included in the 3-in-1 set have one side of the cover infused with Stratos technology.
You’re able to see which side of the cover has Stratos by identifying the printed pattern on the duvet:
- Geometric pattern: The side of the cover with the faint, hexagonal pattern features Stratos. It also feels a little bit more plasticky.
- Block pattern: The side of the cover with the little rectangular blocks is the standard Modal-cotton side. This also feels much softer and smoother.
For optimum temperature regulation, it’s recommended to put the Stratos technology side closest to your body.
When the two duvets are buttoned together, the summer side will feature the geometric Stratos pattern on the outside, and the winter side will feature the standard cotton on the outside. 🤩
This gives you the chance to choose whether you prefer the Stratos or the standard cotton side, no matter which season you’re in.
Our testers preferred the slightly softer cotton side for a more snuggly feel.
Making sense of the box pattern
The Simba Hybrid 3-in-1 duvet has box stitching, so you’ll see large square pockets or boxes throughout.
These serve a functional purpose over a merely aesthetic one.
The box stitching keeps the Simba Renew Clusters evenly spread throughout the duvet, preventing them from bunching up.
This means you can sleep more comfortably, tossing and turning as you wish, without any cold spots.
It also means your duvet won’t lose its fluffiness and equal filling after washing.
The snap buttons
An important feature of the two different tog duvets is the snap buttons.
Situated along the outside of both duvets, the snap buttons allow you to easily click the two duvets together to create the winter duvet.
The snap buttons are white on the side that connects, with a blue cover featuring Simba’s “S” logo on the outside.
These buttons have a very sturdy design to make sure they don’t accidentally snap open while you’re sleeping.
While this does make the buttons slightly larger than you may expect, they’re very conveniently placed, so you won’t notice them at all while sleeping.
We did think that adding an extra button or two on each side would be good to keep the duvets together slightly more, but we haven’t yet experienced any discomfort or inconveniences from the way it’s currently designed.
Simba 3-in-1 duvet washing instructions
Conveniently, the Simba Hybrid 3-in-1 duvet is fully machine-washable at 40℃.
Even though this is a hypoallergenic duvet, the washability is great news for people suffering from allergies or those concerned about hygiene. 🤧
While you should wash your duvet cover weekly, it’s a good idea to wash your actual duvet once or twice a year.
You can tumble-dry the Simba 3-in-1 duvet on a low heat setting, but you can also air dry it if you wish.
If air-drying, make sure you’re only washing the duvet on hot days and with plenty of room for it to air out so the material dries well.
While you can grab some great coverless duvets (the Night Owl coverless duvet is one of our favourites), standard duvets like the Simba should only be used with a duvet cover.
We’ll share some of our favourites below.
Our favourite UK bedding:
Simba Hybrid 3-in-1 duvet sizes
The Simba Hybrid 3-in-1 duvet is available in most standard UK duvet sizes.
These include:
- Simba 3-in-1 duvet single: 135 x 200 cm (4’6” x 6’6”)
- Simba 3-in-1 double duvet: 200 x 200 cm (6’6” x 6’6”)
- Simba 3-in-1 duvet king size: 230 x 220 cm (7’5” x 7’2”)
- Simba 3-in-1 duvet super-king size: 260 x 220 cm (8’5” x 7’2”)
Generally, your duvet size should match your bed size.
That said, you may want to choose a larger duvet or two single duvets if you’re sharing your bed with a partner. 👩❤️👨
Simba Hybrid 3-in-1 duvet prices
The Simba Hybrid 3-in-1 duvet is not cheap, and you’ll pay roughly double what you would for the standard Simba duvet. 💷
This makes sense, considering you’re actually getting 3 duvets, but it may seem a bit excessive considering that the combined tog rating is similar to the one of the standard Simba duvet.
Summer duvets with a lower tog rating are usually cheaper than winter duvets with a higher tog rating.
Keep in mind, also, that the 10.5 tog winter version may still not be warm enough, and you may find yourself needing additional bedding. 😟
This doesn’t quite justify the high price of the Simba duvet.
Unfortunately, it also doesn't come with a trial period, and there is only a 1-year guarantee.
But, we do really like the 3-in-1 duvet, find it extremely comfortable, and are generally fans of the innovative technology.
If you have the budget available, then this is a great purchase.
If not, you may be better off investing in a standard all-season duvet, like the Panda Cloud duvet or the DreamCloud duvet.

Simba 3-in-1 duvet delivery conditions
The Simba Hybrid 3-in-1 duvet comes with free carbon-neutral delivery within 3 working days. 🚚
DPD, the courier company used for our delivery, sent out multiple e-mails with tracking codes and estimated delivery times.
We were very happy to see that Simba utilises environmentally-friendly packaging.
While the product as a whole was wrapped in a plastic bag for protection, the duvet itself was placed in a convenient carry bag made of recycled materials. ♻️
The zipper bag is reusable and a great storage option to keep whichever duvet you don’t happen to be using at the time.
There is a small plastic lining along the zip of the bag for extra protection, but no plastic or cardboard is otherwise used.
We also didn’t experience any off-gassing with this product.
Should you buy the Simba Hybrid 3-in-1 duvet?
If you have the budget available, the Simba Hybrid 3-in-1 duvet is an excellent purchase.
It’s of premium quality, comfortable to sleep with, incredibly lightweight, hypoallergenic, and it features unique temperature-regulating technology.
The 3-in-1 design also practically gives you three duvets in one, with tog ratings of 3.5, 7, and 10.5.
You may need an extra cover on cold nights if you’re not a hot sleeper, but other than that, the Simba 3-in-1 duvet will serve you well.
