Kally Sleep adjustable pillow composition
The Kally Sleep Adjustable Pillow is more than just one pillow.
In fact, it's closer to four pillows in one!
That's because each Kally Pillow contains four easy-to-remove inner sleep pads, which look just like miniature pillows. 🤩
The Kally Pillow is made of two primary materials:
- 100% polycotton pillow cover
- Hollowfibre filling in each pillow pad
We'll get to the polycotton cover a little further down. 👇
But, first, let's consider the hollowfibre filling.
Why hollowfibre?
Hollowfibre is a synthetic material made from fine strands of polyester [1].
It's one of the most popular bedding materials, mainly because it's affordable, machine-washable, and hypoallergenic.
This makes it an excellent choice for people prone to allergies. 🤧
Hollowfibre pillows are plump and springy and usually offer medium-firm to firm support.
But, of course, this will differ for the Kally Sleep Adjustable pillow as you can customise it to suit your needs!
And how exactly do you do that?
Well, we'll get to that in the next section. 🥳
What does sleeping on the Kally pillow feel like?
The Kally pillow is completely adjustable - so it feels different depending on how many sleep pads you keep.
The pillow will feel one way if you use it with just one sleep pad and completely different if you use it with all four sleep pads. 😳
Luckily, we like being the Sleep Hero guinea pigs, so we tried the Kally Sleep adjustable pillow over numerous nights to test all the different options. 👇
Overall comfort & feel of the Kally Sleep pillow
It's important to remember that the Kally is a hollowfibre pillow.
This means it'll have that typical hollowfibre sponginess that will feel closer to more traditional pillows.
Many customisable pillows, like the Emma pillow and the Nectar pillow, are made from memory foam.
Memory foam offers unique contouring that'll cradle your head.
It moulds to the exact shape of your body for superior support and pressure relief. 🤗
Is memory foam better?
- Many people like memory foam pillows because they feel sturdier and more supportive.
- But even though memory foam is a more premium material, just as many people find memory foam pillows too rigid.
The DreamCloud pillow is about as deep as the Kally pillow but much firmer.
The memory foam in the DreamCloud pillow provides a solid, cushion-like feel for those who prefer a firmer pillow.
However, The DreamCloud pillow is not adjustable like the Kally pillow.
For those who prefer a soft and fluffy feel, then the Kally adjustable pillow may just be the right fit for you. 😴
Is the Kally pillow suitable for my sleeping position?
The great thing about the Kally pillow is that you can adjust it to suit your sleeping position.
The number of sleep pads you choose to keep will significantly affect how the pillow feels. 👌
But, which combination works best for you will depend largely on your sleep position.
Is the Kally pillow good for side sleepers?
Over 70% of adults sleep on their side.
It'll make sense, then, that so many pillows cater to side sleepers.
Side sleepers generally need higher loft pillows that offer a good combination of firmness and sinkage. 🤿
When you get the Kally Sleep pillow, it'll be thick and lofty. 😍
That's because all four sleep pads will be stuffed into the cover.
Since the pillow comes this way, we decided to initially test it with all four pads.
Keeping all four sleep pads does two things:
- It creates a very firm pillow.
- It creates a very high loft pillow.
This can be great for many side sleepers, but it won't be suitable for everyone.
We found all four sleep pads a little too high for our sleep. 👎
With four layers, the pillow created a bend in the back and we woke with neck pain. 😨
Four sleep pads may be the best choice for side sleepers of a larger build who need a very high loft pillow.
However, if you have narrow shoulders, you’ll probably feel more comfortable with a slightly lower pillow.
We tried the side sleeping position with three layers
Keeping three of the four sleep pads felt like the optimal way to use the Kally adjustable pillow. 🙌
The height and firmness of the three layers provided better spinal alignment and created less of a bend in the neck.
The pillow had the same firmness, but a lower height for smaller shoulders.
Overall, it felt supportive and comfortable throughout the night with three layers. 🥰
Is the Kally pillow good for back sleepers?
Whilst we found three layers most comfortable in the side sleeping position, this was slightly too high for back sleeping. 🤔
Sleeping on your back is the healthiest position as it puts the least amount of pressure on your spine.
Back sleepers need:
- A medium loft pillow that aligns the spine and neck.
- A medium-feel pillow that gently cushions the head and shoulders.
If the pillow is too high, your neck will be pushed forward, but if it is too low, your neck will bend back.
Two sleep pads were the optimal height and firmness for back sleeping.
The slightly lower loft supported the head yet kept the spine and neck straight. 📏
The pillow was soft enough to cushion the head and shoulders without completely sinking into the pillow.
However, if you are of a heavier build and sleep on your back, three sleep pads may be the better choice.
The great thing about the Kally pillow is that it’s customisable to each individual.
Is the Kally pillow good for stomach sleepers?
Sleeping on your stomach isn't great for your spine - or neck.
If the pillow is too high, your spine and neck will bend upwards, creating extra tension.
One sleep pad in the Kally pillow created the softest and lowest loft pillow.
A single sleep pad felt too low for side and back sleepers.
However, this provided the perfect loft and firmness for stomach sleepers.
One sleep pad provided just enough cushioning to support the head without being too deep to create a bend in the spine and neck.
What if you need more adjustability?
Customisable pillows with different layers - like the Kally Sleep pillow, Nectar pillow, and Emma pillow - can only be adjusted to a certain degree. 😐
If you need a pillow that offers greater customisation, it may be worth looking into shredded foam pillows.
The Simba Hybrid pillow, for example, features shredded memory foam. 🧽
You can take out as much or as little filling as you want, so you can get the pillow perfectly matched to your requirements.
Kally Sleep pillow cover
The Kally pillow cover is made of 100% cotton. 🌱
We were surprised by the quality of the cover, as it didn’t have the soft feel of cotton we expected.
On initial inspection, we weren't overly impressed with the feel and quality of the cover.
However, the cover is also fairly thick, which serves a more practical purpose.
Since you can swap out the inner pads, you need a cover that's thick enough to feel comfortable no matter how many layers are in the actual pillow.
The thickness should also help the cover last through washes, an important trait when it comes to overall longevity. ⏲️
Breathability & airflow
Conveniently, the side of the cover also features an air vent system, which allows for a steady flow of air through the pillow. 💨
This is necessary to push away heat that has built up inside the pillow.
Additionally, cotton is well known for its breathable and moisture-wicking properties.
Synthetic fibres like hollowfibre are often not as temperature-regulating as natural materials, so they require a little extra technology to keep them breathable. ❄️
During our testing, we felt comfortably cool throughout the night and the Kally pillow never felt too warm.
Can you wash the Kally pillow?
The great thing about (most) synthetic fibres is that they're washable. 🛀
The Kally pillow is fully machine-washable at 40℃.
This high temperature can effectively kill dust mites and bacteria, making the Kally pillow a great anti-allergen choice for people prone to sniffles. 🤧
Once washed, leave the pillow to dry naturally on a flat surface.
This will ensure that it keeps its shape.
Other adjustable pillows, like the Simba Hybrid pillow, tend to rely on memory foam and they cannot be washed.
If you prefer, you could remove the cover and wash only this part of the pillow to remove bacteria and moisture.
The cover can be removed easily by undoing the zip on the side of the pillow.
This is also how you can add and remove layers to customise your pillow.
Kally Sleep pillow sizes
The Kally pillow comes in the standard 70 x 40 cm (27.5 x 15.7 inches) dimension.
We also measured the Kally pillow for each adjustable height to give you an idea of the available depths.
Our size guide:
Depth of pillow in cm and inches | |
Four layers | 22 cm (8.6 inches) approx. |
Three layers | 19 cm (7.4 inches) approx. |
Two layers | 16 cm (6.2 inches) approx |
One layer | 11cm (4.3 inches) approx |

The Kally pillow, with all pads, weighs 900 g (1.9 lbs). 🏋️♀️
We'd recommend buying some of the Kally pillowcases together with your pillow.
They're made of 200-thread count cotton and are very affordable.

Kally Sleep pillow prices
The Kally adjustable pillow is one of the most affordable customisable pillows on the market in the UK.
It comes in at a minimum of 45% cheaper than some of the other options out there! 🥳
But, we have to add that this has a lot to do with the quality of materials.
Even though the Kally pillow doesn't rely on cheap and inferior materials, it is still made of hollowfibre.
This is generally a cheaper option.
But overall, our conclusion was that this is a good value for money product.
However, there are similarly priced products that are even better value.
The Panda Memory Foam pillow is just slightly more expensive, yet made with high-quality organic bamboo and sumptuous memory foam.
Kally Sleep pillow discount codes
The Kally Sleep pillow is already very well priced.

We always keep an eye out for good deals. 👀

It's also worth remembering that the Kally trial is not an entirely risk-free operation. ☹️
The customer will have to cover the costs of the postal returns.
What happens with returned pillows?
For hygiene reasons, Kally Sleep cannot resell returned pillows.
Instead, they've partnered with the Marylebone Project [2], a charity organisation that provides accommodation and support to women who are homeless or in need of short-term housing. 🙍♀️
Should you buy the Kally Sleep pillow?
The Kally adjustable pillow is a great invention, and we enjoyed sleeping on it. 💤
You'll be able to customise it to suit your needs exactly.
We'd recommend the Kally adjustable pillow to:
- Sleepers looking for an affordable pillow.
- Back, stomach, and side sleepers who want a customisable solution.
- Sleepers looking for a simple pillow that does its job without fluff or fuss.
Even though we liked the Kally pillow, it's worth remembering that this is still an entry-level adjustable pillow.
The materials are good, but overall the pillow can't compare to more premium memory foam options like the Nectar pillow or the 100% customisable Simba pillow.
