During our Ostrichpillow review, it took a little while to get used to the feel of the Original Napping pillow.

But once we got used to the strange concept, napping with the pillow was actually really comfortable. 🤗

We experienced a cosy, cocoon-like comfort that felt quite relaxing and anxiety-relieving.

By shutting out light and noise (to a certain degree), the Ostrichpillow gives you the feeling of being in your own private cave.

Does the Ostrichpillow Original Napping pillow feel claustrophobic?

The pillow has a cover made of a viscose-elastomer blend and is filled with polystyrene microbeads.

This makes the pillow quite soft and squishy, a bit like we'd imagine diving into a cloud would feel like. ☁️

It also has a weight of only 320 g (0.7 lbs) and a head opening of 70 cm (27.6 inches), plus openings for your nose and mouth, and additional support openings for your hands. 

This means there's plenty of space in the pillow, and it does sit quite loosely. 👍

We never felt claustrophobic or like the pillow was exerting too much pressure.

That said, this would depend on your build, head size, hair volume, and your overall sensitivity.

If you're of a larger build or have a good head of hair, you may also feel a little restricted in the Original Napping pillow. 

It goes without saying, of course, that you can't expect a fabulous hair day after your Ostrichpillow nap. 🤷‍♀️

Using the Ostrichpillow as a travel pillow

Since the Original Napping pillow has been designed for convenient napping no matter where you are, we were a little surprised that a carry bag wasn't included with the delivery. 

The pillow measures 45 x 28 x 15 cm (17.7 x 11 x 5.9 inches), so it's not the smallest travel pillow around.

But, we could compress and roll it up quite simply, so it won't necessarily take up too much space while packing. 🧳

Unless stored in a carry bag, though, there is the chance of the pillow getting dirty more quickly.

Cleaning the Original Napping pillow

The pillow cover is not removable, and you can't machine-wash, tumble-dry, or dry-clean the actual pillow. 🚫

You can, however, spot-clean the pillow using mild soap and water.

Just make sure to air dry it properly afterwards, which may take a while in the UK's humid conditions.

The two sides of the pillow also aren't entirely even, so one side slopes up slightly more than the other. ⛰️

This is great, as you can lean in whichever direction feels the most comfortable.

The Go Neck pillow is so supportive, in fact, that it felt completely comfortable to drop the head down to either side.

We compared these positions with and without the pillow and could immediately notice the tension building in the neck area as soon as the support of the pillow was removed.

How easily can you travel with the Ostrichpillow Go Neck pillow?

Conveniently, memory foam is very compressible, and the Go pillow can be squished up to 60% of its size and stored in a handy travel bag when not in use.

It's the pillow for any occasion, and it can be used as a travel pillow, reading pillow, day pillow, or a simple eye cover to shut out the world. 

What does napping with the Light Versatile Pillow feel like?

The pillow has a polystyrene microbead filling for great squishy comfort, and the outer fabric is made of a viscose-elastomer blend.

It definitely feels quite mouldable, and you'll be able to squish and squash the pillow in any which direction you'd please.

There's also an integrated fit adjuster that allows you to adjust the circumference of the pillow as a whole. 

This is quite easy to work, so you can get a looser fit or a tighter fit depending on where you're using the pillow and the shape/size of your head and neck. 

We found the pillow very easy to operate, and it was simple to find the most comfortable fit.

How do you use the Ostrichpillow Light Versatile Pillow?

There really is no limit to how you can use the Light Versatile Pillow, so we tried a couple of positions.

You can try the following:

• Eye mask: This worked quite well if you're also looking for a squishy surface to lean against, but it didn't block out light as well as the Ostrichpillow eye mask did. The pillow is also quite large, so sometimes it blocked our tester's nose a bit - but we figured out the best way to use it after a few tries. 
• Headband: This worked really well to lean against walls, chairs, or windows for nap time or while travelling. This was probably our favourite use of the pillow as it provided a soft and squishy surface without restricting movement. 👳‍♀️
• Neck travel pillow: This worked well as long as we were leaning backwards and had something more supportive behind us. The pillow isn't very supportive on its own, so you'll probably experience neck pains if your head collapses to the side or back. 🚅
• Standard pillow replacement: While this isn't the ideal use, of course, the Light Versatile Pillow came in handy for naps on the floor (especially if you're lying on your front or back) and can be a great backup if you find yourself without a pillow on your travels. 😴

Since the pillow is so squishy and adjustable, there really are a dozen ways you could make this work for you.

The Ostrichpillow Light Versatile Pillow as a travel option

The Light Versatile Pillow is much less conspicuous than the Ostrichpillow Original Napping pillow, so this will be a good choice if you're looking for some of the unique features of the Original Napping pillow without the stare factor. 😳

The pillow is light and convenient, measuring 31.5 x 16.5 x 7 cm (12.4 x 6.5 x 3.9 inches) and weighing only 125 g (0.3 lbs).

This makes it much lighter than the Ostrichpillow Original Napping Pillow or the Ostrichpillow Go Neck Pillow.

This is our top recommendation if you're looking for the most convenient and easy-to-transport travel pillow option.

On the downside, the pillow doesn't come with a travel bag, the outer fabric is not removable, and the pillow itself cannot be machine-washed. 💦

But, you can hand-wash the pillow.

Just make sure you wash it on a warm day and lay it out so it dries well.

How tightly the mask sits around your face also affects your blackout experience.

While we could enjoy complete darkness even with a loser fit, a 100% blackout experience will require a slightly tighter fit.

The tighter fit does add some minor inconveniences, though:

• The tighter the fit, the more pressure you'll feel on the nose. This does depend on the shape of your face though.
• People with long eyelashes may find their eyelashes brush against the inside of the eye mask if they keep their eyes open.
• A tighter fit also adds pressure all-round, so you're likely to wake up with an imprint of the eye mask on your face.

All of these aren't ideal, so we'd suggest a slightly loser fit for more comfort. 👁️

Can you sleep well with the Ostrichpillow eye mask?

Your sleeping comfort with the Ostrichpillow eye mask will depend on where and in what position you're sleeping. 

If you're using the Ostrichpillow eye mask to experience some darkness while sitting up on a plane or train, or even while meditating during the day, you'll find this an extremely comfortable fit.

Back sleepers using the eye mask throughout the night will also be super comfortable - just be aware that the mask may fall off during the night, depending on how tightly you've adjusted the straps.

We didn't find this eye mask comfortable in the side sleeping position, though. 😕

Since the Ostrichpillow eye mask is padded, you'll feel it push up against your face when lying on the side.

This isn't comfortable at all and creates a gap that defeats the blackout, so you'll likely find yourself wanting to return to the back sleeping position.
