Best UK alternatives
Since the Lilia pillow is not yet available in the UK, why not consider these customisable pillows instead?
What makes the Lilia pillow special?
The Forever pillow by Lilia Sleep is fully customisable. π§
This means you can adjust the pillow to perfectly suit your needs and sleep style.
But that alone doesnβt make the Lilia pillow unique.
After all, there are several other great customisable pillows on the market. π¬π§
What does make the Lilia pillow special, however, is just how easily you can customise it - without having to yank or squeeze foam layers into place.
Interest piqued?
Donβt worry, weβll look at this in detail further down.
Lilia Sleep Forever pillow composition
The Lilia Sleep Forever pillow consists of four different foam layers with mysterious names like βPure Heaven Foamβ and βSturdy Slumber Foamβ.
Lilia uses very high-quality foams with densities of up to 50 kg/m3, which is a testament to the overall quality of this pillow. βοΈ
For now, letβs consider the foam layers in more detail.
The Lilia Sleep pillow foam layers
As we've mentioned, there are four different foam layers in the Lilia pillow.
Here's a closer look at each of these.
Lilia Cloud Foam
The top layer of the Lilia pillow is the Lilia Cloud Foam. β οΈ
This is a 3 cm (0.4 inches) memory foam layer, which provides a soft and snuggly feel.
Pure Heaven Foam
The second layer, also with a height of 3 cm (0.4 inches), is a unique foam specifically developed for side sleepers.
This is a three-in-one foam pad with two sides of cold foam and a memory foam centre.
The slightly firmer cold foam sides prevent the head from rolling to and fro when sleeping in the side position, and the memory foam centre provides a comfortable feel.
Forty Winks Foam
The third layer of the Forever pillow is a 4 cm (1.6 inches) thick memory foam layer.
This layer adds extra height to the pillow, which is perfect for side sleepers, but it can also be easily removed if you prefer a lower loft pillow.
We look at the right pillow loft for your preferred sleeping position further down.
Sturdy Slumber Foam
The final layer of the Lilia pillow is a 3 cm (0.4 inches) base foam pad.
This layer gives the pillow extra stability - something you wonβt find in feather pillows or cheaper foam pillows. π§±
Liliaβs unique sandwich design
So far, so good.
But while the composition of the different foam layers is important, we think what makes the Lilia pillow special is how easily you can adjust these.
The Lilia pillow can easily be opened up with a zip and unfolded - like a sandwich. π₯ͺ
Once unfolded, youβll see two pockets (top and bottom), with the respective top and base layers.
In the middle, youβll have the side sleeper layer and the additional memory foam layer.
Finding the right combination of layers for your sleep style can be difficult.
We guide you through this further down.
We love how easy it is to adjust the layers of the Forever pillow.
Many of the other pillows weβve tested have a pocket design.
This means the pillow only opens up on one side, and you have to pull the individual layers out and squeeze them back in again to adjust.
Is pillow customisability important?
Why, yes, it is.
Even though some brands may claim that theirs is βthe perfect pillowβ, there really is no such thing. π’
This is because weβre all different - and need different pillows.
A tall, muscular side sleeper will require a vastly different pillow than a small, thin back sleeper.
But the mattress youβre sleeping on also matters.
Our sleep expert, Walter Braun, explains:
Which pillow you need depends on your individual requirements. You can find the perfect pillow for your sleeping position only if you have a suitable mattress. If the mattress is softer, you should use a lower pillow; if the mattress is firmer, the pillow should be higher.
Walter Braun
Mattress Expert
Pillows that canβt be adjusted are often too high for some sleepers - or too low for others.
Both of those can lead to uncomfortable nights and neck pain.
Customisability allows pillows to be adjusted to suit your individual needs.
Who is the Lilia pillow suitable for?
While weβve just said that no pillowβs perfect for all, we think that customisable pillows come close.
If youβre able to adjust firmness and height, you can control some of the key factors determining a pillow's suitability.
The Forever pillow is super flexible because of its unique adjustability, meaning itβd be suitable for a wide range of people and sleeping positions.
That said, it still contains predominantly memory foam, which may not be ideal for hot sleepers. π₯΅
Memory foam is known to retain heat.
If youβre a very hot sleeper or sweat quite heavily, weβd recommend opting for a more breathable pillow.
Weβd love to see Lilia design a pillow with more breathable latex foam as a good alternative!

How to customise the Lilia pillow to suit your sleeping style
Finding the right combination of layers for your pillow is not always easy.
This is because the number of layers you need depends on your body type, preferred sleeping position, and your mattress.
Letβs consider this in more detail.
The right customisation for side sleepers
Side sleepers need a higher loft pillow. β°οΈ
This is because the pillow needs to fill the space between neck and mattress, and because the head needs to be kept in line with the spine.
Ultimately, youβre always aiming for optimal spinal alignment to reduce tension.
If you have a firmer mattress, you should definitely keep all four layers of the Lilia Forever Pillow to get the highest loft possible.
This is because firm mattresses donβt allow for any sinkage, so you need the pillow to be high enough to allow for spinal alignment. π
If your mattress is slightly softer and your shoulders sink in a bit, you may need to remove one of the foam layers for better alignment.
The right customisation for back sleepers
Back sleepers will sleep more comfortably on medium-loft pillows.
Of course, this also depends on your build and the firmness of your mattress.
A height of roughly 10 cm (4 inches) will be good for most back sleepers.
Weβd recommend starting with a combination of the Lilia Cloud Foam, Forty Winks Foam, and Sturdy Slumber Foam.
Depending on your build and mattress, you can add or remove an extra layer.
The right customisation for stomach sleepers
Unfortunately, sleeping on your stomach isnβt very healthy for you. π₯΄
Since your head will always be turned to one side, youβll experience a build-up of tension throughout the night and will likely wake up with a fair bit of pain.
But 8% of Brits [1] still like sleeping on their stomachs - and we canβt blame them.
If youβre a stomach sleeper, youβd want to sleep on a very low-loft pillow - or no pillow at all!
Weβd recommend the former, though, as stomach sleepers do often turn to the side at some point during the course of the night.
Weβd suggest a very flat pillow of no more than 6 cm (2.4 inches).
For the Lilia Sleep pillow, you could keep the top and the base layer but remove the two middle layers.
What does sleeping on the Lilia pillow feel like?
We tried the Lilia pillow for the duration of their trial period and found it very comfortable.
The exact firmness of the pillow depends on the combination of foam layers, but, generally, weβd describe it as a medium-firm pillow. π§Έ
The Lilia Cloud Foam top layer is cosy and hugs the head very well - it could even be a little softer and more cloud-like!
Remember that memory foam reacts to temperature, so youβll find it a little firmer in the winter and a little softer in the summer. βοΈβοΈ
The cold foam layer is a tad firmer, and we didnβt find it all that comfortable.
But if, like us, this layer isnβt your favourite, you can simply push it further down or remove it entirely and sleep on the other layers instead.
Thatβs the beauty of the Lilia pillow.
You have complete flexibility and can put it together the way you like best.
Lilia pillow cover and washing instructions
The Lilia pillow cover is made of 100% polyester.
It is fully machine-washable at 30β.
This is great for people prone to allergies or those concerned about hygiene. π€§
But, always make sure to remove all the foam layers before washing as immersing these in water may cause irreparable damage. π¦
Weβd recommend further protecting your Lilia pillow by adding a pillow protector or breathable pillowcase.
Lilia doesnβt have any pillowcases available yet, but why not consider some of our favourite high-quality options instead?
Our favourite UK pillowcases:
Lilia pillow size
The Lilia Forever pillow has dimensions of 60 x 50 cm (23.6 x 19.7 inches).
This is slightly smaller than the standard UK pillow size, but actually matches the size of some other top UK pillows, like the Panda Pillow.
Standard UK pillowcases should still fit.
What does the Lilia Sleep Forever pillow cost?
The Lilia Sleep Forever pillow is not yet available in the UK so we canβt be sure what it would cost. π·
In Europe, however, itβs being marketed at β¬129.99.
This is definitely on the upper end of the scale.
Current UK pillows in that price range include the Emma Original pillow, Tempur pillows, and the Simba Hybrid pillow.
But, the high price point also makes sense.
The Lilia pillow is made of very high-quality materials with densities of up to 50 kg/m3.
This ensures the pillowβs durability.
Unlike cheaper pillows that need to be replaced ever so often, the Lilia pillow is likely to last you a very long time. ποΈ
It also comes with a 3-year guarantee, which is much longer than the industry standard.
Lilia Sleep delivery conditions
In Europe, the Lilia pillow comes with free delivery within 1 - 2 working days. π
Itβs neatly packed in a stylish box.
Simply unpack the pillow, remove the tissue paper, and snuggle.
Does the Lilia pillow smell?
Many memory foam products have an initial chemical smell when you first unpack them.
This is called off-gassing.
Off-gassing is more common with compressed memory foam items like mattresses and mattress toppers, but some customers experience it with items like pillows.
You shouldnβt experience off-gassing with your Lilia pillow.
But, if you do, thatβs no reason to worry. π
Off-gassing isnβt toxic or harmful in any way, and the smells disappear quite quickly.
Does the Forever pillow come with a trial period?
The Lilia Sleep Forever pillow comes with a 30-day trial period.
This starts as soon as the pillow is delivered. π°οΈ
It always takes some time to get used to a new pillow (or a new mattress, for that matter).
Usually, youβll only find out after a few days (or even weeks) whether or not the pillow actually works for you.
This is especially true if youβve had your old pillow for a really long time.
Thatβs why we recommend taking full advantage of the Lilia trial period.
If youβre unhappy with your Forever Pillow after 30 nights, simply send it back and get a full refund. π₯³

Should you buy the Lilia Forever pillow?
The Forever Pillow by Lilia Sleep is not cheap - but itβs well worth the investment.
We love how simple it is to adjust the different layers and customise the pillow to suit your needs.
This is a great pillow for a wide range of sleepers, though it may not be the best fit for very hot sleepers.
Regardless, buying the Lilia pillow is a risk-free choice. π₯°
You get a 30-day trial period and if you donβt absolutely love it, you can send it back for a full refund.
